Just north of the Brainerd Lakes Area, you'll find Cass County and
another large grouping of lakes with names like Boy Lake, Girl Lake,
Woman Lake and Little Boy Lake. This is the Longville Area, and
although the lake namers were a little short on creativity that day,
this idyllic town in the Minnesota northwoods sits at the edge of a
gorgeous 15 lake chain with beautiful lake homes, cabins and many
resorts.
Backus, Hackensack and Pine River are other popular destinations in this
dense water-filled recreational area, with lakes dotting the countryside
wherever you turn. But when you get to Walker, you'll know that Leech
Lake is something special.
At 112,000 acres, Leech Lake is the third largest in Minnesota that lies
entirely within the state borders. It is a massive, but breathtaking
lake, rich with scenery and an up-north ambience.
Leech Lake has become a popular getaway for many well-to-do athletes and
entrepreneurs, and it seems to be where some of the younger money is
heading. Mesmerizing log and cedar homes dot the shoreline, but vacant
lakeshore lots and smaller cabins are still within reach.
On the shores of Leech lies the increasingly popular lakefront town of
Walker. With the popularity of the area, it is trending toward an Ely
like atmosphere, attracting some higher end retail shops and
restaurants.
