Because of the way the multiple listing districts are set up, there is a lot of crossover between Aitkin, Mille Lacs Lake, Deerwood and Crosby. You will find waterfront properties in these areas on both the Twin Cities and the Brainerd pages.
Mille Lacs is a one-of-kind lake. At 132,000 acres, it is pretty much a big bowl full of walleyes. It is a long way from one end to the other, and from any point on the lake the other side is invisible.
But Mille Lacs, once known only as a fishing lake, is becoming a premier recreational getaway for those who enjoy sailing, sailboarding, water skiing, and all types of water recreation. Its sandy beaches, clean water, and relatively shallow grade shoreline make it a great place for the kids to swim, and families are on the prowl to find nice lakeshore real estate at a very reasonable price.
Just north of Mille Lacs lies a large string of lakes from Aitkin to Crosby, that although borders the Brainerd Lakes, has its own feel. Popular lakes like Farm Island and Bay Lake are members of this group, along with many little known lakes where the real estate prices are cheaper.
